A Bench Built for Power Modules
Applying a power module correctly is as important as choosing the right part, and because the performance depends on the thermal path, the filtering and the layout, the integration decides whether a design meets its targets. To support customers more effectively, BeiLuo has opened an FAE verification bench dedicated to Vicor DCM, brick and BCM bus converter modules. The bench lets our engineers measure efficiency, thermal behavior, transient response and EMI before a customer commits to a design, turning advice into evidence.
What We Measure
The bench is equipped with precision power meters, electronic loads, a thermal chamber, high-bandwidth oscilloscopes and an EMI receiver. Engineers characterize efficiency across the line and load range, measure transient response against load steps, and quantify conducted emissions with the intended input filter. For the ChiP modules, the bench highlights how the top-side and bottom-side thermal paths perform, which makes the thermal design concrete. For the BCM, the bench verifies the capacitance-multiplication behavior and the ratio accuracy.
Efficiency and Thermal Validation
Thermal design is often where dense designs fail, so the bench measures module and baseplate temperature at worst-case load and ambient against the datasheet limit. Because efficiency and temperature interact, we measure them together, and we use the thermal calculator to confirm the margin. For a data center or telecom design, this validation is especially valuable.
From Selection to Validation
When a customer asks which module suits their application, our FAE team can now validate the recommendation on the bench. We compare DCM, brick and BCM modules, size the intermediate bus, and evaluate the trade of efficiency against cost for a given operating point. The result is a design path backed by measured data, which reduces the risk of late-stage surprises.
EMI Validation
Conducted emissions surprise many first-time designs, so the bench includes an EMI receiver that measures the result with the customer's intended filter. Where a filter is marginal, we can recommend a change and re-measure, so the design passes on the first certification attempt rather than the second.
Supporting Customers Remotely
Not every customer can visit the bench, so our engineers share measured curves and waveforms remotely and walk customers through the interpretation. A short measurement campaign often resolves a thermal or EMI question that would otherwise take weeks of trial and error on the customer's own board.
Part of a Practical Service
The bench complements our stock and documentation programs. Together they mean a customer can get a genuine Vicor module quickly, receive complete import documentation, and get measured technical support that matches the part to the job. For manufacturers who cannot afford a redesign late in a project, that combination shortens the path to a working design and keeps production on schedule.
Bring-Up Support During Design
Beyond measurement, the bench supports bring-up. When a customer's first board powers up and the efficiency or temperature is not as expected, our engineers can reproduce the condition on the bench and compare it against a reference. That turns a vague symptom into a specific cause, whether it is a thermal-interface problem, an input-filter problem or a load-capacitance problem, and the result is a faster fix and a design that reaches production with confidence.
Root-Cause Sessions
We run short root-cause sessions with customers who cannot visit in person, sharing measured curves and walking through the checks in order, from the load and efficiency to the thermal path, the start-up state and the filter. Most issues are resolved in the first session, because the common causes are well understood and the measurement makes them visible.
Documentation for Audits
The bench also produces measurement records that customers can keep for their own quality files. For audit-heavy industries, having a documented characterization of the chosen module, performed before design release, strengthens the supply-chain file and answers questions that would otherwise surface late.
Measurement Records as a Service
For customers who cannot visit, we also prepare a short measurement package that documents the efficiency, temperature and conducted-emissions results for the recommended module, so the customer starts design from measured data rather than a datasheet typical. That package often shortens the first design cycle and reduces the number of board spins a project needs, and it gives the customer a reference to compare against if a later production issue appears.
