Overview
Electric and hybrid vehicles are dense with electronics: battery management, on-board charging, traction control, and a growing number of control and sensing systems. All of them need power, and they need it efficiently, in a small space, and safely isolated from the high-voltage battery. Vicor power modules are built for high-density, high-efficiency conversion, and BeiLuo supplies them with genuine traceability and FAE support.
High-Density Auxiliary Power
Vehicle power electronics are packaged tightly, so power density is a primary requirement. Vicor ChiP modules deliver high power in a small footprint, using high-frequency switching to shrink the passive components and the board area the power stage needs. A DCM module such as the DCM3623T50M31C2T00 provides 320 W at 28 V from a 16 to 50 V input in a package of about 38.72 by 22.8 by 7.21 mm, which is small enough to fit in the spaces vehicle designers have available. That density comes with efficiency, so the cooling load is also reduced.
Isolated Regulated Rails
Vehicle electronics run from low-voltage rails that must be isolated from the high-voltage battery. Isolated DCM modules convert the high-voltage input into regulated, isolated outputs, so the control electronics float safely and the measurement and communication interfaces stay clean. The DCM2322TA5N17A2T60 provides an isolated 15 V SELV rail from a 43 to 154 V input, a natural fit for control and interface supplies in an electric vehicle.
Wide-Input Operation
A traction battery swings widely across its state of charge, and the auxiliary rails must stay regulated across that range. Because a DCM converter accepts a wide, unregulated input and holds a tight isolated output, it keeps the vehicle electronics running even as the battery discharges or the on-board charger shifts its operating point. That robustness reduces design margin pressure on the rest of the system and improves reliability.
Isolation and Safety
Safety is paramount in a high-voltage vehicle, so the isolation between the battery-side circuitry and the low-voltage electronics must be sound and documented. Vicor DCM modules provide 2250 to 3000 VDC isolation, and the ChiP package keeps the creepage and clearance controlled so the isolation barrier is well defined. For battery management, isolated modules let the sensing and control electronics sit safely on the low-voltage side while still measuring the high-voltage pack.
Thermal and Reliability
The ChiP package offers low top-side and bottom-side thermal impedance, so heat can be removed through the enclosure, the board, or a small heat sink as packaging allows. Because efficiency is high, the heat to remove is modest, but the thermal path must still be designed for the worst-case ambient and duty cycle. The mature module design and documented thermal characteristics make the reliability analysis straightforward, and the standard footprint allows reuse across vehicle platforms.
Design Support and Supply
BeiLuo keeps mainstream Vicor DCM modules and brick converters in regional stock, ships them with import declaration, certificate of origin and RoHS documents, and supports rail architecture, isolation and thermal design with an in-house FAE team. From the battery management supply to the on-board charger auxiliary, our engineers help you choose the modules and size the rails so the vehicle power stage is dense, efficient and safe.
